David Axelrod, the former campaign mastermind and current CNN political commentator, has been hosting a podcast, The Axe Files, since September 2015.
Axelrod had been interviewing politics-oriented guests from his perch atop The University of Chicago Institute of Politics, but the program now has a larger platform. CNN announced today the podcast is part of the CNN podcast network, in partnership with the institute.
The first CNN-distributed episode debuted yesterday, and it features former GOP candidate Jon Huntsman discussing Donald Trump (does anyone discuss anything else these days/months?), the likelihood of Trump getting the GOP nomination, and whether Huntsman would vote for him if he did. (Probably.)
In an interview yesterday on NPR’s All Things Considered, Axelrod explained to host Robert Siegel what drew him to the au courant world of podcasting:
You know, all my life, I’ve been involved in conversations with people in politics and public life, and they’ve always been really interesting to me. And this whole podcast world gives me a chance to have these conversations and share them with other people. So it’s–it is an extension of both my careers. I think life is about having a lot of chapters, and this is another chapter, and I’m really enjoying it.
