The MC at this coming Tuesday night’s Malibu West Beach Club fundraiser for Maiti Nepal, a non-profit organization that has rescued many of the estimated 20,000 young girls trafficked annually in that country, is as emblematic as they come. Sangitha Stehle, a 7th grader at Malibu New Roads School, was adopted from a rescue home in Nepal several years ago by Southern California journalist Chelo-Alvarez Stehle.
Mom is co-presenting the evening, which will feature an appearance by Maiti Nepal founder Anuradha Koirala (pictured), who this past Saturday took part in the annual CNN Heroes broadcast taping at the Shrine Auditorium.
At the Malibu event, there will also be a screening of Tin Girls, a 2003 documentary directed by Javier Bardem’s cousin Miguel. The film was inspired by the writings of Stehle, a tireless journalistic and documentary crusader against sex trafficking worldwide.
Close to two million online votes were cast at CNN.com to determine this year’s Grand Prize Heroes winner, the beneficiary of an additional $100,000 grant. Although the identity of that lucky person is already all over Facebook and YouTube, we urge you to simply wait and tune into the CNN Heroes show on Wednesday night. It really is a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.
