On Thursday (May 6), as the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged nearly a thousand points, the site enjoyed its largest traffic hour ever, generating 2.6 million pages views from  3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., an increase of 130 percent compared to that time period’s average.

CNBC’s mobile site also set a record, delivering 424,000 page views on Thursday.

The traffic surge comes on the heels of a record April for, which drew 5.7 million unique visitors (the largest ever audience for that month) and generated 282 million page views, the largest number in the financial news category, according to comScore. Users also spent 530 million minutes on the site, averaging 21.6 minutes per visit—also tops in the category.

April 26 saw deliver its second largest page view total ever—21.1 million according to the company’s internal data. That figure was 600,000 page views shy of the sites’ all-time high record on Oct. 10, 2008, during the height of the recent financial crisis.
