This weekend at the 2012 summer Olympics, a Spice Girl reunion and One Direction’s performance of “What Makes You Beautiful” brought a fitting end to the most social television event in history, according to the latest report from Bluefin Labs. The closing ceremony alone garnered 2.7 million comments. Here, the social TV analytics company takes a look at the highlights from the final event.

On August 12, there were a total of 11.4 million comments about the Olympics during the 24-hour period surrounding the closing ceremony.

During the actual broadcast on NBC, the Spice Girls were a hit – the 90’s-era girl group received twice as many comments as One Direction, the boy band with a large base of rabid fans.  Other spikes in traffic happened during a video of Queen’s Freddy Mercury and a controversial performance by Russell Brand.

At the bottom of the chart are a list of popular words and phrases that turned up during the event.
