ZenFri has announced the release of Clandestine: Anomaly, its augmented reality strategy game, on iOS devices. The game throws players into a war between aliens and a ‘reality-destroying virus,’ which takes place in their own neighborhood.
In Clandestine: Anomaly, players must help a robotic alien race, whose ship has crashed near the player’s real-world location. The game allows players to assign its geographical boundaries, with the focus on a common location in the player’s life, like home, school or work. Users are encouraged to avoid areas near bodies of water or otherwise inaccessible locations, as the game will use the selected geographical area to flesh out the story, and players are rewarded for traveling to key spots on the map.
Gameplay sees players completing levels combining tower defense and offensive strategy. In each stage, players spend currency to build towers, each with a different ability or strength. Basic Jackal towers, for instance, focus on destroying individual targets, while Spitfire towers shoot multiple enemies simultaneously, and so on.
As players unlock additional tower types over time, they must choose their favorites before each mission, or unlock additional tower spots instantly via in-app purchase. Players also earn an overall currency as they complete missions, which can be spent to upgrade these towers. Finally, since levels are placed on the real-world map, users are encouraged to travel to these locations to activate special airstrike and recon abilities, which further the augmented reality gameplay.
Clandestine: Anomaly is available to download for $3.99 on the iTunes App Store. The game is coming soon to Android.
