City Council Votes for Condom Use on Porn Sets

The Los Angeles city council voiced their support for mandatory condom use in adult films on Wednesday.

The council voted 10-0 in favor of a resolution that requests state legislation that increases the city’s ability to enforce condom use on porn sets, in large part by making it a condition of receiving a film permit. AVN takes a detailed look at the proposal, which was introduced by Paul Krekorian and Richard Alarcon.

AVN editor Tom Hymes spoke with Rick Orlov of the Daily News about the issue. Hymes says:

Clearly, the industry is not for this move and the result of it would be that more productions would go underground to the extent they are able to do that.

When Hymes speaks of “the industry,” he is likely referring to the production side of the industry, who make the bulk of the profit, and not the porn performers whose health and safety the legislation is designed to protect.
