In more “torture report” related news… “Meet the Press” host, Chuck Todd, appeared on “Morning Joe” today ahead of his scheduled interview Sunday with former Vice President, Dick Cheney.
Referring to the American public’s initial support of anti-terror prevention through the use of extreme tactics, Joe Scarborough said to Todd, “like in a time of crisis, Americans throw the niceties out. They leave it to Columbia Law School Professors to talk about legality. They’re like ‘keep us safe.’ You know?”
“No, it is,” Todd responded in agreement. “It’s always one of those — and I’m sure you’ve had votes like that — where in the moment, it’s one thing, ten years later you look back and, ‘Hmm, should we have thought about that better? Should we have thought about that differently?’ And I think that’s the fairest, sort of defense in all of this is … you’ve got to remember the way things felt in the moment”
Todd went on to say, “Americans are very forgiving on this front. The thing that this report is damaging is relationships overseas.”
