New device activations increased 332% on Christmas Day as compared to the average number of activations on any other day in December. According to new figures from Flurry Analytics, any given day from December 1-20 there were 4 million new devices activated, but Christmas Day device activations reached 17.4 million.
Flurry also found that app downloads spiked 115 percent on Christmas Day, as compared to any other day December 1-20. Beginning early in the day and lasting into the night, downloads averaged about 20 million per hour.
Here is more from the Flurry blog: “While smartphone activations typically outpace that of tablets by 4:1, on Christmas Day 2012, more tablets were activated than smartphones. The big winners were Apple iPads, Apple iPad Minis and Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7” tablets. In particular, Amazon had a very strong performance in the tablet category, growing by several thousand percent over its baseline of tablet activations over the earlier part of December.”
Flurry expects downloads to hit more than 1.5 billion, possibly hitting 2 billion downloads by the end of the year.
