Chipotle Hires Burson-Marsteller to Deal With Its E-coli Crisis

And they'll pay Harold Burson in "Burrito Bucks." (Or maybe not.)

Denver-based burrito boss Chipotle has enjoyed multiple years of PR joviality. However, lately with a nasty string of food safety issues, as well as that dastardly E. coli outbreak in 11 states, the brand has witnessed a dip in stock and a flummox in reputation.

When issues reign supreme, call in a pro. And there is probably no other public relations agency known for putting a kibosh on PR fail than Burson-Marsteller.

“We are delighted to have been chosen by Chipotle to be their new communications partner and look forward to getting started,” said Burson-Marsteller US CEO Michael Law in an email to PRWeek.

Who wouldn’t, right?

Burson-Marsteller replaces previous AOR Edelman over what was cited as “client conflict” over the contract termination. Currently, Chipotle stock is down 18 percent, but hopes are the share increase (9 percent this year) is a result of late-night munchies and reduced fear over dealing with those munchies for the next several weeks.
