Soon Posterous bloggers and their readers will be able to talk to each other in real time. Chatwing has announced the release of its chat tool, Shoutbox, to the blogging platform that Twitter acquired in May 2012.

Shoutbox replaces static reader comments at the end of blog posts with live chat boxes that draw readers in from all over the world to make the reading experience more social. Aimed at professional bloggers, Chatwing’s live chat software takes about a minute to install and can be customized by size, color, and font.

Readers can log in with their Twitter or Facebook accounts as well as signing in anonymously as guests. They can also share the content of the chats with their networks. Currently, the tool has a maximum capacity of 600 users at a time, but the team is working on expanding this number to 1,000 people.

In addition to Posterous, Chatwing is compatible with blogs on Tumblr, Blogspot, TypePad, LiveJournal, Wix, Weebly, WetPaint, ESPN Fantasy Sports League Sites, Bligoo, WebNode, Lefora, and Jimdo, as well as WordPress through an iframe plugin.

Posterous grew out of the startup incubator Y Combinator in 2008. In 2011, the platform doubled its usage, attracting 15 million users per month. Posterous has remained open to its blogging community since Twitter acquired the company in May.

The company reports that private group sharing within the Posterous network is growing three times faster than public group sharing, with family vacations and events topping the list of popular topics. With the addition of Chatwing’s live chat tool, Posterous may attract more bloggers who are looking to reach a global audience.
