Twitter has more than 288 million active users and has revolutionised personal branding for celebrities of all shapes and sizes around the world.
But it’s not for everyone. Indeed, for some not being on Twitter can often be more of a badge of honor than actually having a place on the network.
And one of those people is former basketball superstar Charles Barkley. And, as per usual, his reasons are very much his own.
“Fans have this perception that they can say anything to you because you are a celebrity,” Barkley said to CNBC. “The only reason I do no social media whatsoever [is because] I don’t feel the need to talk to all these nitwits out there.”
“If people have something bad to say, they can just say it on the Internet and it’ll just go into the air.”
Barkley also had some choice words to say about online “experts”.
“Unfortunately we have given all these trolls the opportunity to voice their opinion [on social media]. Just because you watch Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t mean you can do the operation,” he said.
