Jared Shapiro, the editorial director of news and entertainment at Bauer Publishing’s celebrity weeklies In Touch and Life & Style, is jumping from the world of teen moms and Hollywood gossip that of high-end glossies. Niche Media, the publisher of Gotham and Los Angeles Confidential, announced that Shapiro has been named the new editor in chief of its South Florida-centric luxury magazine, Ocean Drive.
Shapiro’s resume is heavy on celeb coverage. He began his career at Us Weekly, co-authored a book with reality star Kendra Wilkinson and is a regular TV commentator. But according to Niche, he’ll be right at home at his new gig as Ocean Drive editor. While working for Bauer, Shapiro “frequently visited Miami covering major events, the burgeoning restaurant and hotel scenes, and celebrity news that have helped to grow Miami’s reputation as America’s Riviera,” Niche said in a statement. And with the latest circulation reports showing newsstand sales plummeting at both In Touch and Life & Style, it's not a bad time to make the move to luxury.
