CBS News Hires Tillman as Dep. Bureau Chief

CBS News has announced that Thomas Tillman will be the new Deputy Bureau Chief. He has been filling in for Jim McGlinchy for the past seven months. Higherups like that he does his job well — and apparently with a smile. Is this allowed in Washington? Hardly a newcomer, Tillman has worked at CBS for 22 years.

The news came in an internal memo from Bureau Chief Chris Isham.

As FBDC’s Peter Ogburn remarked after this rolled in… “I hate things that say shit like ‘As you all know…’  Really? If I already knew it, why are you telling me?”

I am delighted to announce that Thomas Tillman has agreed to accept the position of Deputy Bureau Chief. As all of you know, Thomas has been filling in for Jim McGlinchy for the past seven months. During this time I have been impressed with Tillman’s keen ability to deal with the diverse set of incoming challenges—professionally and always with a smile.

Thomas has worked at CBS News for 22 years. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he started as an Associate Producer at Newspath in New York in 1989. He worked on the political desk during the 1992 Presidential election and subsequently moved to the Washington Bureau as a producer and then Senior Producer at Newspath.  In 1998 Thomas moved over to the Special Events Unit in the bureau where he organized coverage of Presidential and other VIP trips all over the world. In 2009, he was promoted to Coordinating Producer for the unit.

This is a great time to be working at CBS News and this bureau is a critical part of furthering the impressive progress we are seeing at the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning and, of course, Face The Nation. I am confident that Thomas will be instrumental in making sure that our  bureau continues to operate at its highest and most productive capacity.  I am also confident that all of you will give him your full support and encouragement.
