CBS Execs On Rather: 'No Future' at the Network

Via this morning’s Washington Post:

NEW YORK — CBS executives have decided there is no future role at the network for Dan Rather, making it certain that the man who sat in the anchor chair for 24 years will depart by this fall.

Unnamed executives tell the paper that the decision not to renew Rather’s contract, which expires in November, has nothing to do with the “controversy surrounding his botched story on President Bush and the National Guard,” but, ahem, rather the fact there is no room for him at 60 Minutes since Katie Couric‘s addition to the network (she is said to contribute a half-dozen storiers a year) and the hiring of Anderson Cooper as a contributor.
