What can cat videos do for your business? If you ask Toronto agency John St. they’ll tell you that cat videos can do everything for your business. That’s why they’re shifting their focus, opening up a new video division in 2012 and focusing entirely on cat vids.
Of course, the ‘Catvertising’ video is tongue-in-cheek, but they do make some good points. Cats are pretty cheap talent so they provide excellent ROI—all you need to give them is a little food and water. And honestly, who doesn’t love an adorable cat video?
It looks like John St. isn’t the only agency that understands that cat viral video production is the future. I can’t help but notice the suspicious similarity between this Catvertising video and ‘Kittywood Studios: Cat Videos Incorporated’, which went viral over the summer. Kittywood Studios was the brainchild of Pixels per Second and has gotten over 535,000 YouTube views to date. Coincidence or ripoff? You be the judge…
On a more serious note, in the Catvertising video they point out that, “By 2015 cat videos are going to represent 90 percent of the content on the World Wide Web.” While this isn’t exactly true, it is true that Cisco recently predicted that 90 percent of all Internet traffic will be video in the next three years so instead of shifting the focus to cat videos is really may be advisable for creative agencies to start thinking about shifting their focus to online video. And throwing in a cat video every now and then may not be a bad idea either. After all, even if everything is not literally moving towards cat videos, there’s no denying that people do love them. Meow.
