Cathie Black: I Probably Spend 20 to 30 Percent Of My Day On Digitial

The First Lady of American Magazines, Cathie Black, President of Hearst Magazines appeared on Diane Rehm’s radio show this morning. She talked about her new book, Basic Black, and gave advice to callers about navigating a career in media, her experience at USA Today and the new digital age. ”On a daily basis,” Black told Rehm, ”I’m (dealing) more in circulation, digital strategy … I probably spend 20 to 30 percent of my day on digital (concerns) … (Hearst is) all now doing podcasting … blogging … it’s a very exciting time …”


Black also said on the program, ”I personally believe in the future of magazines as they exist today … (web sites) allow an editor to do more … I think it is extending its brand … more and more and Editor in Chief will really be seen as a brand director … we are doing video from recipes...
