She talked about her new book, Basic Black, and gave advice to callers about navigating a career in media, her experience at USA Today and the new digital age. ”On a daily basis,” Black told Rehm, ”I’m (dealing) more in circulation, digital strategy … I probably spend 20 to 30 percent of my day on digital (concerns) … (Hearst is) all now doing podcasting … blogging … it’s a very exciting time …”

Black also said on the program, ”I personally believe in the future of magazines as they exist today … (web sites) allow an editor to do more … I think it is extending its brand … more and more and Editor in Chief will really be seen as a brand director … we are doing video from recipes to fashion shoots.”
