Twitter has released the top 10 trends of the past year in its second installment of its Year in Review. Before you take a look at the list of the top trending topics of 2010, take 30 seconds and come up with your own list to see how close you get to the real deal. Daily Twitter users might get quite a few, but we think some will surprise even the most tweet-obsessed. The Twitter blog has been posting retrospectives about Twitter in 2010. They started with the new faces that joined Twitter, a list which included Kanye West, the Dalai Lama and Bill Gates. The latest Year in Review post details the top trends on Twitter for the past year - the "big ten" conversations that engaged the network more than any others. Pulpo Paul Some of these trends are world events, others are sports-, tech-, and celebrity-related. Twitter notes that these trends are a compilation of all of the related terms, so terms like #InceptionMovie and #InceptionDream would be part of Inception's trend. Interestingly, this post comes on the heel of Twitter's explanation of how trending topics make it to the top ten, in response to criticism that WikiLeaks has never trended. Of course, Twitter is more than just the top-level, worldwide trends: your most meaningful topics of the past year might have nothing to do with this top ten list, and instead include phrases and topics that you discussed most in your 140-character messages this past year.
