At this moment, you probably have dozens of Facebook event invitations — birthday parties, reunions, concerts, poetry readings, and the random “I have a new phone and need your numbers” request. Calendo, an iPhone app that launched Wednesday, sorts through these events (as well as others in your area) to recommend only the best ones. In beta, those who used Calendo went to twice as many events.
The Israel-based app scans Facebook and finds events that you’d likely go to. It tailors results based on your preferences, not what Facebook thinks you’d like. Over time, the app learns more about what types of events you’re interested in and adapts accordingly. Events range from sporting events with thousands of people in attendance to small yoga classes.
Based on events that you’ve attended in the past, as well as events that you select through Calendo, the app gives each event a score and then recommends the highest-scoring upcoming events.
Eran Back, co-founder and CEO of Calendo, discussed how the app can help users:
Calendo’s vision is to help people enrich their offline lives by allowing them to discover new activities, expand their social circles, and make better use of their leisure time.
