Most of us have done it. Mimicked the listicle format in one way or another for a tweet or item about Jonah Peretti’s powerhouse.
And why not? We can honestly say that the following lede, crafted by Fast Company executive editor Noah Robischon, made us laugh out loud today:
Ask BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti about his influences, and his answer sounds like, well, a BuzzFeed post – one titled “The Three Historical References That Explain BuzzFeed Will Make You Say WTF.”
Ha ha. And certainly, the WTF-iest of the three is Jay Z. Speaking of whom, at least one media critic, Ad Age’s Jeremy Barr, thought it worth noting the following paragraph debut:
Or, as Hova himself once rapped, “I’m so far ahead of my time, I’m bout to start another life / Look behind you, I’m bout to pass you twice.”
Think of it as BuzzProse.
There’s much more to savor in Robischon’s article. Another notable strand for us is the very astute quantification provided at one point by BuzzFeed senior editor Matt Stopera. When Robischon suggested that a fall video item about people falling off hoverboards was all over Twitter, Sopera cautioned:
“In our Twitter world,” meaning media and tech professionals, “everyone was talking about it, but in the real world, people aren’t really talking about it.”
