BuzzFeed Bulks Up San Francisco Bureau

Four reporters are joining recently appointed bureau chief Mat Honan.

New York-based VentureBeat contributor Ruth Reader got the jump today on an expansion of BuzzFeed’s Silicon Valley ranks. The group of staffers being added is impressive:

Among the [hires being announced today] is John Paczkowski, former deputy managing editor at Re/code known for his pithy scoops and commentary. When Re/code founder Kara Swisher reported on Honan’s new editorial role at BuzzFeed, she also noted that the media outlet was looking to poach certain Re/code reporters – a challenge she welcomed.

Joining Paczkowski are former New York Times Dealbook reporter William Alden, Nieman Journalism Lab reporter Caroline O’Donovan and Nicole Nguyen, assistant tech editor at Popsugar. Though Nguyen will be operating out of the San Francisco office, she will report to Buzzfeed Life editorial director Peggy Wang.

The NorCal BuzzFeed bureau is headed by Mat Honan (pictured), who joined the media company last December from Wired.
