Buyouts At Denver Post, Or Else

The Denver Post has told its newsroom employees that if up to 10 percent of the staff—15-20 editorial employees—don’t take a buyout, layoffs will follow.

“No one could call this development unexpected,” Westword’s Michael Roberts wrote. “The economy remains in the doldrums, making the already challenging scenario faced by the journalism industry that much more difficult.”

The Post announced a four percent budget cut over the summer, which it achieved by reducing page count, especially in the features and sports sections, Roberts says.
