Brian Williams: Don’t Get Election News From The Daily Show

In an assertion that NBC pages running around Rock Center would probably bristle at, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams says viewers shouldn’t depend on the Daily Show for election coverage.

“Jon is the vitamin supplement. We are the main meal. We always have been and we always will be,” Williams told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I regard him as a freestanding branch of government in this country. I love the show. But the day it becomes the primary source of news for people, then the diet is out of whack.”

NBC’s election night coverage, with Williams, ex-anchor Tom Brokaw and Meet The PressTim Russert, is slated for 10 p.m. EST. Stewart and Stephen Colbert will co-anchor Indecision 2006: The Midterm Midtacular, at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
