John Henry, who purchased The Boston Globe in 2013, has a new venture on his hands: A health news site named Stat.
Stat is edited by Rick Berke, who previously served as assistant managing editor of the Times and executive editor of Politico. The site employs 40 staffers, all separate from the Globe. The Stat team is located in New York, San Francisco and Washington.
Berke told the Times that while health news attracts plenty of consumer eyeballs, Stat is designed to reach medical and science professionals.
“We want it to appeal to a broad audience,” said Berke.
