The bloggers behind the horror site Bloody Disgusting are making the move from fanboys to big shot producers. This weekend Bloody Disgusting will release The Woman–a film that both revolted and intrigued at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film is about a family who finds a feral woman running wild in the wilderness and takes her home. Chaos ensues…Bloody chaos even.
Bloody Disgusting is hoping its cache among horror fans, and its partnership with Hollywood management company The Collective, will give the film the boost it needs.
Bloody Disgusting has a loyal following; it boasts more than 73,000 friends on Facebook and 1,000,000 unique monthly visitors. The Collective, founded by Michael Green, a former partner at the Hollywood powerhouse the Firm, has used social media effectively before — appealing to fans of the band Linkin Park and the comedian Eddie Izzard using tools such as Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.
“We can make the [Bloody Disgusting] business work at a smaller level, and if a ‘Paranormal Activity’ reveals itself, then even better,” said Green, referring to the micro-budget horror title that has turned into a global franchise.
Bloody Disgusting has a deal worked out with AMC to release the film in 15 cities.
