Blast Off with foursquare, 7-Eleven, Super 8

NASA astronaut Doug Wheelock became the first foursquare user to check in from outer space in October, and the location-based mobile app is now looking for a second, as part of Check Into Space, a promotional campaign, along with 7-Eleven, for Paramount Pictures theatrical release Super 8, which debuts Friday.

NASA astronaut Doug Wheelock became the first foursquare user to check in from outer space in October, and the location-based mobile app is now looking for a second, as part of Check Into Space, a promotional campaign, along with 7-Eleven, for Paramount Pictures theatrical release Super 8, which debuts Friday.

foursquare users must check in from 7-Eleven stores to be eligible, with every 88th check-in winning free movie tickets, and every 88,888th Zero-G Experience weightless flights.

From the contest page:

Stop wondering what’s out there and dig this: Use your mobile phone to check in at 7-Eleven for a chance to win a trip to space. Yes, that space. The one with the moon and stars. Not the one in-between your couch cushions, where you lose things like change and chip bits.

And foursquare continued the flow of information and humor with a post on its blog:

Last year, @Astro_Wheels was the first foursquare user to check in from space. Like many of you, we were super jealous. So, when 7-Eleven and the crew behind the new movie Super 8 proposed a contest to send someone to space, we immediately rigged it so that we… um… agreed that it was a great idea.

So, if you’re in the United States, get your 7-Eleven check-ins ready. It’s a pretty awesome contest. There are over 21,000 prizes: Every 88th check-in wins free Super 8 movie tickets (it’s in theaters beginning June 10th), every 88,888th check-in gets a free Zero-G Experience. And, buckle up your space suits, because if there are over 888,888 check-ins in June, one lucky winner goes to Space! Space!!!
