Billy Joel Closing Out Shea Stadium

At the end of 2008, Shea Stadium is (as you probably know) being torn down. In its place will be a parking lot for brand-spankin’-new next-door stadium Citi Field.

So who will close out the stadium? The Mets will do it baseball-wise. Music-wise… it’ll be, err, Billy Joel.

We just got wind of Joel’s July 16 concert: “The Last Play at Shea, From the Beatles to Billy.” The concert is being put on by Live Nation and ends a legacy of musical acts at Shea Stadium that, well, mostly included the Beatles and the Who.
