Billboard has a new news director in Hannah Karp, who joins from the Wall Street Journal, where she has been since 2004, and where she is currently a staff reporter covering the music industry. As news director, Karp will be responsible for Topline, the magazine’s news section, as well as breaking news and music industry coverage on the publication’s digital side. She will also oversee Billboard’s power lists.
“Hannah is one of the world’s elite music reporters, with extensive experience covering the music industry and a proven track record of breaking news in the space,” said svp of content Mike Bruno in a statement.
Karp replaces Shirley Halperin, who left in March to serve as executive editor, music, at Variety.
Billboard recently expanded its music news footprint with parent company Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group’s acquisition of Spin, Vibe and Stereogum in December 2016.
