Media darling and Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank is slated to keynote a Center for American Progress event on defense spending on Thursday morning.
Reporters may want to brace themselves. Some reporters in D.C. love Frank for being so, well, frank in his responses but he doesn’t have a warm and fuzzy reputation with many scribes. Many know him to usually be pretty abrasive. He may have developed the adversarial relationship when he acted as his own press secretary. Yes, for years Frank prided himself on not having a press secretary and would handle media requests himself. A reporter could be patched through by calling the front desk. No longer. Unfortunately, his current press person, Harry Gural, didn’t have much to say, other than that the days of Frank being his own press secretary were over “before my time here.”
The event is free. It takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 10: 30 a.m. at 1333 H St. RSVP here.
