Barnes & Noble has teamed up with USA Today and Rand McNally to launch a new writing contest for 7th-12th graders.
Students are encouraged to write an essay about what they love about America for the chance to win a $10,000 college scholarship as well as a free trip to Washington, D.C. Winners from each state will get a Nook tablet and have their essays published in an eBook collection called America the Beautiful. Teachers will also be rewarded for participating, as the first 1,000 teachers who register will get a B&N gift card.
Here is more about the contest from the press release: “‘America the Beautiful’ asks this simple question of kids: What’s the one place in the U.S. that truly inspires you? Maybe it’s captured in the hometown they love, or the special memories about a place they visited, or even a landmark that is meaningful to them.” The contest runs through May 14th.
