The blog-troversy between FNC’s Greta Van Susteren’s GretaWire blog and FishbowlDC over writing about and discussing Kim Kardashian’s butt appears to be subsiding.
You may have noticed that Van Susteren recently questioned the post we wrote describing journos comments about Kardashian’s caboose. She said our post was demeaning to women.
Van Susteren is a fair fighter, we praise her for that. She re-printed FishbowlDC’s response to her assertion. For those who haven’t been following, my co-editor, Matt Dornic, and I questioned the validity of Van Susteren’s claim. Van Susteren responded, saying, “it might be fairer to also include in the posting her current and recent accomplishments rather than simply post a Playboy cover from 3 years ago when she was 26. People can really change in their 20’s.”
Ok, Greta, so here’s what Kardashian has been up to lately:
1. Quick Trim commericals in which she adjusts her bikini bottom while emerging soaking wet from a pool. Her line: “How hot can you be?” (Jan. 4, 2010)
2. Having a near orgasm over a salad in a Carl’s Jr. commercial. (Dec. 2009) Watch it here.

Here is a response to a posting of mine yesterday. Betsy Rothstein and I don’t agree but I understand her point and I appreciate the tone of her answer to me. I also suspect that there are many issues with which we do agree. I figured it is only fair that I post her response in full.
As an aside, it might be fairer to also include in the posting her current and recent accomplishments rather than simply post a Playboy cover from 3 years ago when she was 26. People can really change in their 20’s. I have no idea what her current view is of the magazine cover and whether she thinks it a good idea or not but people do change their views over time and even sometimes regret things. I think it has been reported that she now regrets it.
But the issue is not really her, but rather what messages we as journalists send.
