AT&T released a free barcode scanner app for Android and BlackBerry.
I don’t quite understand AT&T pronouncement that: AT&T Code Scanner provides consumers with the tool they need to experience a sneak-peak into the exciting potential of this emerging mobile technology. Barcode scanning has been available for years using add-on hardware. And, the first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, featured barcode scanning as a way to highlight its camera autofocus capability.
AT&T also launched a barcode creating web service to let you create your own barcodes.
This service requires you provide an e-mail address and, optionally, first and last names.
You do not need to be an AT&T Wireless subscriber to download the free app. I was able to find it in the Android Market on my Verizon Wireless Droid.
