Atlassian Acquires HipChat

Atlassian, a global software company, has acquired HipChat, the hosted private chat service whose customers include Groupon, HubSpot, and WIRED. The terms of the sale were not disclosed, but the HipChat founders were told there would be beer.

Atlassian, a global software company, has acquired HipChat, the hosted private chat service whose customers include Groupon, HubSpot, and WIRED. The terms of the sale were not disclosed, but the HipChat founders were told there would be beer.

Similar to Yammer and Salesforce Chatter, HipChat is a cloud-based software that’s good for real-time communication, file sharing, and group collaboration.  A professional alternative to AIM and Skype, the chat service has some standout features like a centralized contact list that’s automatically updated when an administrator adds a new employee and conversation threads that are searchable by keyword.
