The News Media Guild, which represents Associated Press employees, is currently negotiating a new contract with AP management.
Up yesterday: the Guild asked that employees in smaller bureaus receive greater job security.
The Guild also suggested a proposal that would allow employees to get more training in video, and “expressed disappointment” that the AP hadn’t offered buyouts before going through its latest round of layoffs (which we think occurred last year, affecting 90 people).
The AP, for its part, has proposed a pension freeze and replacement by a 401(k) type plan.
Negotiations resume Thursday.
