Are You Willing to Pay AT&T $150 to Fix Wireless Dead Zone in Your Home?

Let me see if I understand this correctly: AT&T Wireless has issues with its voice and data network coverage. So, it wants me to pay $149.99 to put up my own little cell tower (femtocell) so my phone can actually get service from its network.

AT&T Announces Nationwide Plans for 3G Microcell

The bright side of this announcement is that there doesn’t seem to be any monthly recurring cost (MRC) associated with the service. You will need an existing high speed wired broadband service with Internet access to use AT&T’s 3G Microcell product.

The service is scheduled to start in mid-April in selected areas. The service will be available in the contintental United States (sorry Alaska & Hawaii!).
