San Diego is finally getting a world class movie house. ArcLight Cinemas just announced that they are building an 1,800-seat, 14-screen multiplex at the Westfield UTC mall near La Jolla. The theater will be ArcLight’s first outside of LA County.
The new ArcLight represents a significant upgrade in luxury from San Diego’s existing movie houses. But more importantly, it will be one of the few places showing art house flicks. It’s basically a cinematic wasteland outside of Hillcrest. This Fishie remembers waiting in line to see Pan’s Labyrinth in San Diego and being stuck alongside every pretentious, self-congratulatory intellectual asshole in the city–all 20 of them. Hopefully the ArcLight will help spread those folks out a bit.
