ICS Mobile has launched AppXchange on iOS, its social app discovery platform which aims to help users find the best applications across a variety of categories, using suggestions from other users, tech experts and even celebrities. The app curates recommendations, and allows users to browse through topics to find apps that matter to them, based on the types of apps they already have installed on their device(s).
AppXchange first scans the user’s iOS device, and allows them to hide any apps they don’t want associated with their profile. From there, users can follow others, create lists based on specific topics, compare their apps against other users and more.
The “Top Lists” function allows AppXchange users to browse through a selection of the best lists on the service. These tend to focus on one particular genre of applications, like photo editing apps, fitness apps, or news apps (as examples), but can also be something more clever or funny, like apps that are best for a “Girl’s Night Out,” or the best time-wasters when “the in-laws are in town.”
The app offers some light game elements, as users can unlock badges for becoming “experts” on specific app topics, like games or photography, and can also follow those experts on the leaderboards. App recommendations can be pushed back out to Twitter or Facebook, and the app even offers a look at apps that have recently been price dropped for further app discovery.
“App discovery has become a major challenge for both consumers and developers. It’s hard to find what you really want” says Joe Bayen, CEO of ICS Mobile, in a company statement. “AppXchange simplifies the frequent task of sifting through large category lists in the App Store to find great new content.”
