Apple Sells 20.34M iPhones, 9.25M iPads in Third Quarter

Apple sold 20.34 million iPhones and 9.25 million iPads in the third quarter of this year, helping contribute to an all-time record in net profit for the company.

Taking iPods into account, that means the company has sold 222 million iOS devices cumulatively, up from 189 million at the end of last quarter. Android has had 135 million device activations to date, according to Google’s most recent quarterly earnings call.

“I think the Android activation number is a difficult one to get our heads around,” said chief operating officer Tim Cook, who went on to describe year-over-year growth rates in terms of quarterly iPad and iPhone sales.
