Apple reveals top iPhone, iPad apps of 2013

[caption id="attachment_35165" align="alignnone" width="650"] Photo via Flickr / Cristiano Betta[/caption] Apple has revealed its top iPhone and iPad apps for 2013, with the results offering a look at the most popular (and highest grossing) apps across all categories, from games to social networking and photography. Game developer King sits atop the Top Free apps list for both iPhone and iPad with Candy Crush Saga, while Mojang’s Minecraft: Pocket Edition was the Top Paid app on both platforms. Candy Crush Saga was also the Top Grossing app on iOS, followed by Clash of Clans from Supercell. Candy Crush Saga currently sits at over 137 million monthly active players across all platforms, including Facebook and Android, according to our app tracking service AppData. Pandora Radio rounds out the top three Top Grossing apps on iPhone, while Supercell’s Hay Day was the No. 3 Top Grossing app on iPad. According to AppData’s estimates, Pandora Radio has accumulated over $43 million in revenue so far this year, while Hay Day has amassed almost $81 million in that same time frame. On iPhone, Hay Day is No. 5 for Top Grossing apps, while Pandora isn’t even in the Top 15 on iPad. The Top Free apps list contains multiple non-games, including The Weather Channel, Netflix and Skype on iPad, and Snapchat, Vine and Instagram on iPhone. Minecraft: Pocket Edition is joined by games including Temple Run: Oz and Plants vs Zombies on both platforms. Apple’s Editors’ Choice awards went to Disney Animated and Badland for iPad App and Game of the Year, respectively. On iPhone, the top honor went to Duolingo for App of the Year and Ridiculous Fishing: A Tale of Redemption for Game of the Year.
