Last week we reported rumors that Apple may have had a bunk shipment of Verizon iPad 2s. The news came from forums of consumers who were mystified as to why the iPads that they had ordered and which were confirmed on FedEx trucks, were being ‘returned to sender’ before they showed up. The news is official today.
Wired.com explains: “Apple recalled an unspecified number of Verizon-carried iPad 2 tablets because of connectivity issues related to their mobile equipment identifier codes. An Apple spokesperson confirmed this and the limited recall, saying, ‘Duplicate MEID codes were flashed onto an extremely small number of iPad units for the Verizon 3G network.’ An MEID is a one-of-a-kind numerical code that is used to identify a mobile device when it connects to a CDMA network (which is why only the Verizon units were affected). network.”
If you ordered one of these iPad 2s from Verizon, you will have to wait a bit longer for the device to arrive.
