Apple Enables iTunes Preview for Apps

You know that annoying thing that used to happen when you clicked on a link to something in the iTunes store–you’d be sent to a landing page that opened iTunes, assuming you were on a Mac or a PC with iTunes installed. Otherwise, you’d end at that dumb landing page. Well, over the past few months Apple has been setting up iTunes previews online, meaning the redirect link takes you two an online preview of the app, as well as opening iTunes. The company rolled this feature out for music earlier, and, as of today, has done the same for apps.

Here’s the preview page for the Classics eBook app.

This is a useful tool for app developers, who can now show off their wares without having to send users to iTunes. The feature is also fueling speculation that Apple intends to create a Web-based version of iTunes, as reported by Mashable.
