Facebook Launches App Center In More Countries

Facebook announced Monday that its app center portal for discovery of applications is now available to 100 percent of its users in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. The social network also announced that it is accepting submissions from developers with translated apps, saying in a post on its developer blog that developers that do so quickly will have their apps approved by Friday. Users in the countries listed above should now see the app center bookmark on the left side of their homepage on Facebook.com and in Facebook apps for the iPhone, iPad, and Android. Facebook detailed some app center success stories in its announcement about the international expansion: In the month since the app center initially launched, it has helped millions of people discover new mobile and Web apps. Specifically, game developer Kixeye has seen a lift in the quality of organic installs, and found that app center traffic produces better-than-average revenue per user for its games War Commander and Battle Pirates. Similarly, a growing percentage of new players in Disney’s Marvel: Avengers Alliance is originating from the app center, and those users are more engaged than those who come through other channels. Some of the most popular apps and games on Facebook were built by developers based outside of the U.S., such as Diamond Dash (Wooga, Germany), Bubble Witch Saga (King.com, U.K.), Jetpack Joyride (Halfbrick, Australia), Angry Birds Friends (Rovio, Finland), Ninja Showdown (Noritown, South Korea), Soundcloud (Germany), Spotify (Sweden), and Deezer (France). The app center makes it easier for people around the world to discover the best apps and games for them, wherever they are. And Facebook detailed its new localization tool for developers in its developer blog post: To prepare for the broader rollout, we’ve added the localize tab to the app dashboard. There, you can provide translations of your app’s information (name, tagline, and descriptions) for use in the app center and across Facebook. Follow these simple steps to localize your app information: Select a primary language: The primary language that you select on the app center tab will be what people see if you haven’t translated your app detail page into their language. Choose additional languages: Go to the localize tab, select “add language” from the language drop-down, and click the language you wish to add. Provide translated content: On the next page, add a tagline, description, and detailed description. If you are requesting extended permissions and have entered an explanation for this in your primary language, it will also be required for each additional language. Display name and publisher are optional. Save and submit: Once you’re done, click “save” and then “submit.” Translated content will be reviewed before an app is listed in an app center category to ensure that it meets the guidelines. Even if you haven’t translated your actual app, your app information may appear to people that speak other languages on Facebook. For that reason, we recommend translating your app information into the languages most frequently spoken by your users (listed on the users tab in insights).
