Anne Barnard Wins Berger Award for Best Human-Interest Reporting

Anne Barnard, a reporter for The New York Times, has won the Mike Berger Award from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism for her year-long series about a Haitian church in Queens.

The Berger Award is given out annually to a person who has created excellent human interest articles.

Barnard’s pieces, collectively titled “A Parish Tested,” chronicles a Haitian parish as it deals with the aftermath from the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. Berger Award judges called Barnard’s work “evocative,” “insightful,” and “unforgettable.”
