Anna Kendrick Is Mistaken for Lily Tomlin’s Meditation Teacher in Kate Spade’s New Ad

Newest installment of the #Missadventure series

Nobody knows who Anna Kendrick is. Last year, Newscastle Brown Ale didn't give her a Super Bowl commercial, and now she's mistaken for someone else—Lily Tomlin's meditation instructor.

Kate Spade's newest installment of the #Missadventure series follows Kendrick's funny holiday spot in which she loses her keys after shopping. This time, we find her at Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles.

Things quickly take a turn after she checks in, though. Kendrick is escorted to the penthouse, where she is introduced to Tomlin as the "best personal-meditation instructor in Los Angeles." From there, Kendrick's awkward charm kicks in, and she pretends to lead Tomlin through a meditation exercise.

"Adventure and spontaneity are at the core of both videos," said Mary Beech, Kate Spade's CMO. "You will continue to see this celebration of one-of-a-kind, thought-provoking women throughout the year and beyond."

Like Kate Spade's previous spot, clothes are featured, but they aren't the focal point. Instead, Kendrick uses jewelry, bags and scarves in an entertaining story about pink being the "most positive energy in the world."

The tie-in with Tomlin is also well timed for the launch of Tomlin's upcoming Netflix series Grace and Frankie and her indie film—and Tribeca Film Festival pick—Grandma.

"We also want to engage our audience in surprising and fun ways," Beech said. "Featuring Lily Tomlin came from both of these notions. She is a real-life heroine and inspiring comedienne."
