Android is Now Activating 700,000 Devices Per Day

Just an update on Android’s ever accelerating momentum: the platform is now seeing 700,000 devices activated each day up from a pace of 550,000 per day in July, according to Andy Rubin, who oversees the mobile operating system and platform for Google.

Android has seen at least 200 million total device activations through mid-November. That’s just behind the 250 million figure that Apple shared about cumulative device sales for iOS. At this pace, Google probably added another 18 to 20 million or so device activations in the last month.

The platform has grown fast enough that Facebook now sees more daily active use on its Android app than its iPhone one — a signal that all first-tier developers should be seeing the same trend now if not very soon.
