Andrea Valdez Is Named Editor of Wired.com

The recently-arrived editor in chief of Wired, Nicholas Thompson, has his own hiring announcement to make today: Andrea Valdez joins as editor of Wired.com.

Valdez arrives from Texas Monthly, where she has been for over a decade, most recently as editor of the texasmonthly.com. During her tenure, she worked on the launch of two verticals and helped see the site through a redesign in 2013.

Valdez is a native Texan who joined Texas Monthly after getting her master’s from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 2006. She started out as a fact-checker, becoming deputy web editor in 2012. Two years later, she was named named editor of the site.

“We’re thrilled to have Andrea join us at Wired,” said Thompson in a statement. “She’s done everything we’d want a web editor to have done: fact-check, edit, assign, manage, coordinate social media, and edit a superb website. She’s also just fun to talk to, and I can’t wait for her to start.”

Her new job will take her out of Texas and into Wired’s San Francisco office. She starts March 13.
