An 11.6 Inch MacBook Air Would Make a Nice Replacement for my Ancient 1st Gen MacBook

The new iPod touch angle of this DigiTimes piece didn’t surprise me. Apple has introduced a new iPod touch every September for the past three years. So, a 4th generation model is expected. The addition of a camera to the iPod touch was rumored last summer too. Nothing came of it. The 5th generation iPod nano, however, gained a low resolution video recording capability (no still photos). I’ll add to the rumor by predicting (to no one’s surprise) that the new iPod touch will also have Retina Display and GPS.

Apple readies 11.6-inch MacBook Air and new iPod touch

I was, however, surprised by the notion that the MacBook Air will receive a refresh and be shrunken down a bit with an 11.6 inch display. The current generation MacBook air has a 13.3 inch display like the MacBook and low-end MacBook Pro. This is a good size for a lot of people. But, I’ve become fond of the 10.1 inch displays and lighter weight of netbooks.

My 1st generation MacBook is still running fine. But, I’ve been considering replacing it. The 13.3 inch MacBook Pro seemed like the natural replacement. But, if an 11.6 inch MacBook Air is priced at around $1199 (same as the low-end MacBook Pro), I’d consider the Air instead.
