Amazon Game Studios and HotGen have announced the release of To-Fu Fury, a level-based puzzle platforming game starring a courageous block of tofu. In each level, players fling, launch or otherwise move their hero around obstacles in order to reach and save the Fortune Kitty somewhere in the stage.
Players move the tofu block by either tapping and dragging their finger to fling it like a slingshot, or drag in the opposite direction to ‘ping’ the tofu in a straight line. Players can also hold two fingers on the screen to walk through small pathways. The tofu will stick to all basic surfaces, even if this sees it hanging from a wall or ceiling. Some environments offers bounce pads, moving platforms or are covered in spikes, as examples, so players need to activate the right moves to avoid obstacles, move blockades and more to finish each stage.
Levels are filled with orbs, or chi, which players can collect to master each stage. Each level has a ‘par’ time and move allotment, and gamers can replay stages to collect any missed chi, or to discover shorter and faster paths for their completion. To be clear, though, gamers only need to reach the Fortune Kitty to complete the stage; the other three goals are voluntary.
As players complete levels, they earn coins which can be spent on flying trails, paint schemes and costumes for the tofu block. Players can also purchase power-ups to make levels easier. One turns the tofu into a chi magnet, while another turns the aiming line red to indicate whether players will hit an obstacle with the move.
In addition to main story missions, players can complete challenge stages (which offer harder puzzles) to earn a high score. While some levels see the tofu simply working against the environment to reach Fortune Kitty, others include enemies which can be defeated by ‘pinging’ the tofu block into them.
To-Fu Fury is available to download on the iTunes App Store and Amazon Appstore for Fire tablets and phones.
