Amazon Continues to Fight the "Amazon Tax"

Never one to give up easily, Amazon has started the process to get a vote to repeal the “Amazon Tax” on next year’s ballet in the state of California.

California has a referendum system, and it’s one of the ways that laws get passed there. Rather than lobby the state legislature, a concerned individual (or corporation) can work to get an issue on the yearly ballot where it can be directly voted on by Californian.

Amazon is trying to use California’s referendum system to do an end run around the state legislature, and on Friday it started the process by filing a petition with the California State Attorney General’s Office.

Amazon’s goal here is to get the sales tax issue on the ballot when voters go to the polls in February 2012.
