Last week I wrote about Tweetcaster, which was the free app of the day from Amazon. The quality of free apps make it worthwhile to check Amazon’s app store every day to see if you are interested in that day’s free app. Of course, the challenge is to remember to check the store. While there are several ways that you can reminder yourself, one way is to install an app called Amazon Free App of the Day Notifier.
The Notifier app is currently being developed and has been made available by the developer on the XDA Forums site. To install the app you will need to enable the ability to install apps from Unknown sources by tapping Menu, Settings, Applications on your phone. As you can see in the screenshot, the application is very straight forward, all you do is set the reminder time. The reminder appears on the Android notification bar at the top of the screen, and when you slide down the notification screen you see the name of the free app for that day; you tap the notification to open the Amazon AppStore.
The developer has stated that he plans to make the app available in the Android Market once it has been fully tested, so if you don’t want to be involved in testing a new app, you can keep an eye out for it in the Market. Obviously, you can configure a recurring appointment in the Calendar to remind you to check the Amazon AppStore, or if you have Tasker on your phone, you could program it to start the Amazon AppStore at a specified time each day.
