One month after WaPo won the bidding war for Politico’s Nia Malika Henderson, Robert Allbritton has struck back in a way that is allegedly rattling the top brass at 15th and L. FishbowlDC has learned that Paul Volpe, the man who built the new WaPo political site, has been hired away by TBD, Allbritton’s new metro site.
Volpe will be a top editor-innovator for the site. WaPo officials huddled with Volpe several times, pleading with him to stay, according to a source familiar with the WaPo meetings.
